Bathroom Project

When we bought our house the master bathroom was carpeted- Yuck! We had to re-carpet the whole house but opted not to put re-carpet there, so it has just been floorboard since we moved in.  In my opinion the bathroom was really poorly designed- There was a tile platform for the garden tub and shower and the step up to the shower was awkward.  Many of the tiles were cracked and chipped when we moved in and water was leaking through the cracks.  We also had a swarm of carpenter ants emerging from the cracked tiles last summer which ended up being the straw that broke the camels back.  We decided to start ripping out the tiles to see what was going on underneath....  Here is our progress so far

We took out this first layer of tiles back in October. Eventhough at this point everything was still usable, we started using the other upstairs bathroom and this one just sat like this until May.

Paul's brother is living with us this summer and so he has done most of the work up here-  It is so nice to be making progress!  Now that almost everything is ripped out, I am trying to see if another configuration will work or if we need to have the shower/tub in the same spots  The area isnt very big so that is whats limiting me.  We are also going to rip out the vanity/huge mirror and replace those while we're at it.

If any of you have done similar projects and have any pointers or ideas please let me know!!!

I don't know what you want for your vanity and mirror, but I see tons of people redo theirs without buying new ones and they look great. Basically they frame the mirror and paint the vanity, and you could get a new top for your vanity and new faucets and it could look great without pulling it all out. But maybe you have something really specific in mind. :) Just thought I'd share my ideas!

It is going to look so nice when you are finished. You have made some great improvements to your home and the master bath will be the finale.

I don't know if you like the "furniture" look, but my sister has used second-hand dressers--refinished them and cut a hole in the top for the sink. They look really great, but it can be a lot of work.

our bathrooms are terribly designed...yours looked pretty nice, honestly. Not so much now ;)

Ours was nice compared to many out there, but the step up to the shower wasn't wide enough and made getting in and out of the shower awkward. Same thing with the bath tub. I like the idea of the furniture look-
